Gin, shaken
Rendezvous
Barline 1h,h,h,c
The code is the shorthand off my printed menu; the Key tab decodes every letter.
- 1 1/2 oz Gin
- 1/2 oz Maraschino liqueur
- 1/2 oz Lime juice
Shake hard with ice, then strain.
Coupe.
Taste
An ounce and a half of gin, half an ounce of maraschino, half an ounce of lime. The cherry liqueur is almond and pit as much as fruit, and it does all the sweetening. Equal maraschino and lime, so neither wins. Shaken, coupe. Gin, cherry stone, and a tart lime line.
History
Diane Lapis and Anne Peck-Davis print a Rendezvous Cocktail in Cocktails Across America (2018), dated 1938 and tied to the Muehlebach Hotel in Kansas City: one ounce of gin, half an ounce of maraschino, half an ounce of lime. The hotel opened in 1915. A different modern drink of the same name is gin, Campari, and kirsch; that is not this pour. This menu scales the 1938 hotel drink to an ounce and a half of gin against half an ounce each of maraschino and lime, shaken, coupe.
