Taste

An ounce and a half of scotch, then a half ounce each of sweet vermouth, grenadine, and lemon. The lemon and grenadine are why it is shaken, and the grenadine turns it pink. Coupe, cherry. Scotch, grape, and a sour pomegranate cut.

History

Harry Craddock prints the Mickie Walker Cocktail in The Savoy Cocktail Book in 1930: one dash grenadine, one dash lemon juice, a quarter Italian vermouth, three-quarters Scotch whisky, shaken. The spelling is Craddock's; the name tracks Edward Patrick "Mickey" Walker, the New Jersey boxer who took the welterweight title in 1922 and the middleweight in 1926. The 1937 UKBG Approved Cocktails repeats Craddock's dashes. Craddock's spelling and his four ingredients stay. His dashes of grenadine and lemon grow to a half ounce each, level with the vermouth, against an ounce and a half of scotch.
