Taste

One ounce of light rum, then half ounces of rye, cognac, grenadine, and lemon. Three spirits, rum first. The grenadine is pomegranate, the lemon the sour, the rye and cognac spice and grape under the cane. Shaken, coupe.

History

Ted Haigh, in Vintage Spirits and Forgotten Cocktails, credits the Twelve Mile Limit to Tommy Millard, a war correspondent, and the name to the Prohibition coastal limit: three miles, then twelve, the distance you had to sail to drink. Imbibe reprints Haigh's pour. The Three Mile Limit is the rum, brandy, lemon, and grenadine parent; this one adds rye. This menu is one ounce of light rum and half an ounce each of rye, cognac, grenadine, and lemon, shaken, coupe.
