Taste

Two ounces of light rum, three-quarters lime, half an ounce of grenadine. Same bones as the Daiquiri, pomegranate in the sugar slot. Pink, tart, a little berry where the other is only cane. Shaken, coupe.

History

Harry Craddock prints the Santiago Cocktail in the 1930 Savoy Cocktail Book: two dashes of grenadine, two dashes of lemon juice, one glass of Bacardi. Santiago de Cuba is the city nearest the Daiquiri mines, and the name tracks that. Difford's notes that with lime instead of lemon the same idea is a Bacardi Cocktail. Craddock's dashes of grenadine become half an ounce here, in a Daiquiri of two ounces of light rum and three-quarters lime.

Same shape, other bottles
