Taste

Equal ounces of mezcal and rye, so smoke and pepper share the glass. Half an ounce of Bénédictine is honey and baking spice. Four dashes of Peychaud's pull anise and cherry through both spirits. Stirred, rocks with ice, orange twist.

History

The El Camino is the house cocktail of the Chestnut Club in Santa Monica, on the list since the bar opened in 2014. Imbibe printed the spec: equal mezcal and rye, half an ounce of Bénédictine, four dashes of Peychaud's, over a large cube with an orange twist. It drinks as a split-base Fancy, smoke against rye heat, the liqueur in the sugar slot. It is poured here exactly as Imbibe printed it.
