Buster Brown

The code is the shorthand off my printed menu; the Key tab decodes every letter.
- 2 oz Bourbon
- 3/4 oz Lemon juice
- 1/2 oz Demerara syrup
- 3 dashes Orange bitters
Shake hard with ice, then strain.
Coupe, orange twist.
Taste
Two ounces of bourbon, three-quarters lemon, half an ounce of demerara, three dashes of orange bitters. The lemon is a full sour; orange bitters are peel over the brown sugar. Shaken, coupe, orange twist.
History
The Buster Brown prints in the 1933 Mixer's Guide as a whiskey cocktail: a teaspoon of gum, two dashes of lemon, two dashes of orange bitters, and a jigger of whisky, stirred and strained. The comic-strip boy of the same name had been running in American newspapers since 1902. This menu turns those lemon dashes into three-quarters of an ounce, sweetens with half an ounce of demerara, shakes it, and keeps three dashes of orange bitters. Coupe, orange twist.
