Gin, stirred
Cin-Cyn
Barline 1,1,1,Ro
The code is the shorthand off my printed menu; the Key tab decodes every letter.
- 1 oz Gin
- 1 oz Cynar
- 1 oz Sweet vermouth
Stir with ice until cold, then strain.
Rocks, iced, orange twist.
Taste
Equal ounces of gin, Cynar, and sweet vermouth, so the artichoke amaro is a third of the drink. Stirred, rocks with ice, orange twist. A Negroni with Cynar in the Campari slot, softer bitter, still orange.
History
Cin-Cyn is a play on cin-cin, the Italian toast, and on Cynar. It is a Negroni with Cynar in place of Campari, equal parts, over ice with an orange twist. Difford's treats it as a sweeter, less bitter Negroni riff. It is too recent for the pre-1970 manuals and belongs to the amaro revival of the 2000s. The equal parts and the rocks glass carry over unchanged.
