Taste

An ounce and a quarter of cachaça against three-quarters each of Campari and sweet vermouth. The cane spirit leads a little; Campari is still a third of the drink. Stirred, rocks with ice, orange twist. A Negroni in sugarcane, grassy and bitter orange.

History

Swap gin for cachaça in a Negroni and the drink is a Brazilian Negroni, a substitution that spread with cachaça's craft revival in the 2000s. Difford's and later books print it as a Negroni ratio on cachaça. This menu pours an ounce and a quarter of cachaça against three-quarters each of Campari and sweet vermouth, over ice with an orange twist, so the cane leads the way the Boulevardier lets bourbon lead.

Same shape, other bottles

The Negroni family, with the bottle that changed.
