Cornerstone
Barline 1h,h,q,2,co
The code is the shorthand off my printed menu; the Key tab decodes every letter.
- 1 1/2 oz Cachaça
- 1/2 oz Grenadine
- 1/4 oz Fernet
- 2 dashes Orange bitters
Stir with ice until cold, then strain.
Coupe, orange twist.
Taste
An ounce and a half of cachaça, half an ounce of grenadine, a quarter of Fernet. The pomegranate is the sugar; the Fernet is mint and bitter against the cane. Two dashes of orange bitters are peel. Stirred, coupe, orange twist.
History
Brett Adams and Jacob Grier print the Cornerstone in Raising the Bar (2022), in the Fernet chapter: an ounce and a half of cachaça, half an ounce of grenadine, a quarter of Fernet, two dashes of orange bitters, orange twist. The pre-1970 manuals have nothing by this name. It drinks as an Old-Fashioned on cane spirit, grenadine in the sugar slot, Fernet as the bitter. It is poured here as printed.
